TASMAC – the distribution and retail arm which sells alcohol (by bottles), an arm of the State Government of Tamil Nadu sold ₹98 Cr worth liquor in the Chennai region on 13 & 14 Jan. ‘22 ahead of the long Pongal weekend. Madurai and Trichy regions however clocked over ₹100 crores in sales while Salem & Coimbatore regions clocked a little less than ₹100 Crores during the two days. This is nothing short of a record of sorts. Estimated sales on 13 January was ₹203 crores and on 14 January was ₹317 crores.
During 2021, the sales of alcoholic beverages through Tasmac was ₹417 Crores. Sunday, 16 Jan. ‘22 being a lockdown day in the state helped add up sales in the 2 days ahead of the weekend. Deepavali 2021 sales on 2 & 3 Nov. 2021 went down to Rs. 435 Crores, compared to Rs. 467 Crores last year.
The Tamilnadu State Marketing Corporation Ltd (TASMAC), with its 5,402 liquor retail vending outlets, earned a sum of Rs 33,811.14 crore tax revenue for the state government last fiscal. Moving the demand for grants for his department in the Assembly, Electricity, Prohibition and Excise Minister V. Senthilbalaji said during the last Assembly session that TASMAC fetched a tax revenue of Rs 33,811.14 crore last fiscal, up from Rs.33,133.24 crore earned in FY20.
