The Ice-cream market in India is estimated to be Rs. 24,000 Cr (USD 3 Bn) in 2022. The market is extremely fractured across the country and the top companies such as Hindustan Unilever, Amul Dairy, etc. focus on take away packs, ranging from 100ml to 1,000 ml. Beyond the Metros, the Tier 1-3 towns largely serve locally produced and marketed brands, some of whom are restricted within their geographical districts. The ice-cream parlours on the other hand, have gained popularity over the last 20+ years with the expansion of domestic favourites such as Amul, Havmor, Vadilal, etc. as well as international specialty chains such as Movenpick, Baskin Robbins, among others. In the past 10 years, gourmet ice cream chains have sprung up across India. They have become a go-to place for families & groups, as well as for weekend / leisure purposes.
