Starbucks Global CEO Laxman Narasimhan had announced in Jan. ‘24 during his maiden visit to India that the world’s largest coffee chain will operate over 1,000+ cafes and double its workforce in India by 2028.
In tune with the company’s vision, the expansion team of TATA Starbucks in India have been working relentlessly to ensure the desired milestone is achieved in time.
The company recently announced its newest cafe at the holy town of Varanasi (aka Benares) in Uttar Pradesh. Known by its historical name of “Kasi”, the temple is home to various Hindu temples and attracts millions of tourists each year.

With the vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swachh Bharath” campaign for the last decade, Varanasi has emerged to become one of the cleanest towns in India, compared with its past.
The Ganges river is now at its purest best, from once-upon-a-time dreaded seaway to go near. The pathway to the famed Lord Vishwanath Temple, among the 12-Jyotirlinga shrines in the world, has also been cleaned up to global standards.

These, along with various tourist friendly measures by the UP Government led by Yogi Adidyanath, have ensured the city is now able to attract visitors from all across the country and globally.
“Nestled within one of the city’s majestic heritage sites, we’re honored to invite you to experience the fusion of contemporary and timeless architecture as we unveil our newest location”, said Ayush Sharma, Manager Projects, Tata Starbucks on his Linkedin post.

“Step inside and immerse yourself in the charm of Varanasi, beautifully encapsulated in every detail of our interior design. From the intricate nods to local culture to the seamless blend of modernity with tradition, our space reflects the essence of this vibrant city”, he added.

The company opened its 400th outlet at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu recently. The cafe chain, which counts Coffee Day, Costa and Barista as its key compatriots emerged as the one with highest annual revenues of Rs. 1,000 Cr in 2023.
Established in 2012 as a JV with the TATA Group, the company employs over 8,200 staff members, or partners, as they are addressed internally.
The tourism boom in India is expected to continue for the next decade as well, with improvements in travel, accommodation, lodging and food services at tourist locations.
