What began with a quest for great coffee and a wonderful cafe experience by four founders is today a fledgling chain of 117 stores in 8 cities. Third Wave Coffee aims to operate 150 cafes across the country by March 2025.

The chain recently forayed in to Mysore with its first cafe. The royal city welcomes millions of tourists all through the year from across India as well as worldwide.

Rajat Luthra, CEO, Third Wave Coffee said, “Coffee is not just an occasional beverage anymore, it is powering people’s day now.

And we are on a mission to deliver our exceptional coffee experience to more & more customers, wherever they are.

Mysuru is one of the most charming cities in Southern India and we are honored to introduce our specialty brews to the people of the city.

Our Cafes are spaces created with an aim to inspire and foster deep connections with our customers, and we are excited to bring the Third Wave Coffee experience to the community of Mysore.”

The Mysuru Cafe launch marks the brand’s presence in 8 cities across the country, in addition to Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Chandigarh.

The company also shared a few interesting highlights about its performance in 2024, such as serving 71 lakh cups of coffee and beverages, welcoming 54 lakh guests, with Mocha Choco Chip, Classic Cold Coffee and Cappuccino as its bestsellers.

The company also said the seasonal beverages such as Chocco Malt Frappe were the biggest hits in Mumbai & Pune while Pistachhio Latte was the bestseller in Hyderabad and Mango Milk Shake sold the most in Bangalore & NCR.

Editor’s Note

The country is currently home to over 2,000 branded cafes, led by Starbucks with 450+ cafes followed by Cafe Coffee Day, Barista and Costa.

Independent cafes have sprung up all over the country, and most of them also serve main course food and desserts, unlike the branded chains which have stuck to hot and cold beverages along with snacky food items.

None of the cafe chains are currently profitable, including those like Starbucks, CCD and Costa, which have been brewing coffee for over 2 decades and more in India.

Third Wave Coffee has raised INR 500 Cr (USD 66 Mn) from marquee investors and spent INR 201 Cr to earn INR 144 Cr revenues for FY 23, according to the Kredible.
