Global coffee giant Starbucks, which operates over 35,000 cafes across the world and has been present in India since 2011.  Currently, the company is the largest cafe chain in India with 460+ outlets across India.

Though 90% of ardent Starbucks fans know the cafe only for its exotic cold and hot coffee-based beverages, delectable food from the Taj (Hotel) kitchens and seasonal branded merchandise, the company sells exotic packed coffee beans sourced from India and from across the world.

The latest launch by Starbucks is the single-origin coffee from Papua New Guinea Highlands, South America.

.

Vibhor Mishra, Coffee Ambassador, APAC and China, Starbucks said, “We are dedicated to sourcing the highest quality arabica coffee from around the world and sharing those exceptional experiences with our customers.
Papua New Guinea Highlands reflects that philosophy, an origin defined by care, culture, and craftsmanship at every step of the journey.”

The island country is located in Oceania in the south western Pacific Ocean, with Indonesia and Australia as neighbouring countries.

Papa New Guinea is famous for its generations old small holder coffee gardens, where families grow just a few trees alongside crops such as legumes and bananas.

Starbucks’ Farmer Support Centres in markets such as Papa New Guinea are a testament to the company’s ongoing investment in origin communities such as here.

The blends have tasting notes of sugarcane and black cardamon, which blends a sweet and spiced cup with a smooth body combined with balanced acidity.

Editor’s Note

Starbucks already sells single origin specialty coffee from Kenya, Columbia, Sumatra and a blend from Indian estates.

Discerning consumers, especially those who savour espresso-based beverages at home, with their own specialty coffee machines prefer to consume their cherished beverages and coffee chains have been catering to them.

Starbucks beans are expensive, but have a niche market for themselves. At present, bean sales contribute to low single-digit to the overall sales for the coffee chain in India, though the sales are much higher in the US markets.
