India’s retail sector set to nearly double to US$ 1.93 trillion by 2030 – Deloitte–FICCI Report

The newly elected NR Congress led Government at Puducherry is planning to allow door delivery of liquor in the Union Terriroty which has always been considered a tippler’s paradise for lower pricing of alcohol due to the prevailing local tax structure, especially on IMFL and Imported Liquor.

The tiny town, which once had (and continues to) become the “Goa” of South India is a vacationers first choice for a relaxed beach holiday with over 1,000 rooms in and around the capital area including a dozen luxury hotels and resorts. Many from the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu travel to Pondy, as it is popularly known, only to enjoy the relatively cheaper priced-liquor as well as for the range the UT offers which aren’t available in TN.

The mechanics of home delivery are yet to be figured by the authority as it could impact those under-age to consume alcohol. While it is 21 years age to be legally allowed to consume liquor in many parts of India, it is only 18 years in Tamil Nadu and Puduchery. However, under-age alcohol liquor consumption is on the rise due to the prevelance of liquor shops, early introduction to alcohol and socio-behavioural changes in an evolving society such as ours.
