Mercedes Benz India has sold 4,697 vehicles between 1 Jan – 31 Mar. 2023, the highest ever for the German automobile company. In Q1 2022, Mercedes sold 4,022 units and 16,497 units through the whole year.

Santhosh Iyer, MD & CEO, Merxedes-Benz India said, “I am delighted to announce that our unified efforts have resulted in the ‘Best Ever Fiscal Year’ FY 22-23 for Mercedes-Benz India, along with the ‘Best Ever Q1’ of 2023. These results reaffirm the market’s potential and resilience which is keeping it in sharp focus for Mercedes-Benz, as the fastest-growing market for the company”.

“For me, I couldn’t have wished for a more exciting and fulfilling start to my new role and the road ahead looks equally exciting. There will be emotive new products – like the AMG GT 63 S E Performance we launched today and many more to come; but most importantly we will drive customers’ desires and aspirations through every step of the customer journey”, he shared on his Linkedin post.

The highlight of Q1 2023 sales was the outstanding growth of the TEV portfolio at 107%, comprising the GLS, S-Class, EQS, AMG, S-Class Maybach and GLS Maybach. The core sedan portfolio comprising the C-Class and E-Class LWB grew by a strong 27%, comprising 30% of the company’s Q1 2023 volumes. The company also recorded ‘Best ever Q1’ supported by the strong Desire of its products and increasing penetration of EVs.

The seamless omnichannel luxury experience created through ‘direct to customer’ sales model- ROTF (Retail of the Future) resulted in an enhanced customer experience.
In continuation to its 2023 motto, ‘DESIRE for the Extraordinaire’, Mercedes-Benz India launched the highly desirable and emotive Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, the first performance hybrid and the most powerful production vehicle ever made by Mercedes-AMG. The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance highlights Mercedes-Benz’s expertise in consistent technology transfer from motorsport to production cars along with constant innovation.

Santosh Iyer added, “With the launch of the AMG GT 63 E Performance, we continue to offer our discerning customers the most desirable top-end vehicles from our global portfolio. This exquisite performance machine is entirely developed by our engineers in Affalterbach, offering a fascinating level of driving dynamics, rightly bearing AMG’s F1-inspired new technology label, E PERFORMANCE. With this vehicle, we are embracing new target groups for AMG. The E Performance will transition the performance DNA of AMG into an electrified future, firmly establishing Mercedes-AMG as the ‘performance brand of the future’ for these customers.”

The fourth quarter (Jan – Mar) of the financial year is usually the time when most corporates invest on luxury cars to avail tax benefits. However, the surge this year is also because the same period last year was just out of the 2-year long pandemic. Other than the fourth quarter, it is usually the festival months between Sep. – Nov. when the highest ever sales of luxury automobiles occurs.
