Musician and Singer Anirudh Ravichander has joined hands with Actor Rana Dagubatti and entrepreneur Sree Harsha Vadlamudi to launch Loca Loka, a tequila brand with agave grown 100% in the Jalisco region of Mexico.
Sree Harsha shared on his LinkedIn post, “Thrilled to announce that Loca Loka has officially entered the international alcoBev market today, debuting with its initial offering: Tequila Blanco and Reposado.
Crafted from 100% Agave in the renowned Jalisco region, this innovative tequila is inspired by the blend of two vibrant cultures, India and Mexico.
Loca Loka is backed by two cultural icons and brand co-founders, leading Indian film actor Rana Daggubati and renowned musician and composer Anirudh Ravichander, along with me.”
Sree Harsha is also the owner of Ironhill India, one of the fastest growing microbreweries in India.
Daggubati told The Mint newspaper. “We worked with a good master distiller and started contract manufacturing but the branding began about a year ago.
This is a celebration drink, and there’s a unique way that India celebrates. Telangana, for instance, has a palm wine called Kallu which is used as a celebratory drink.
Mexicans also celebrate their local spirits, and we wanted to get into this business because there has been an evolution in the way Indians drink tequila,”
The company plans to sell two variants – Blanco, with fruit flavours of cooked agave, and Reposado, which will be aged in French and American oak barrels and shall sell for USD 46-55 (~INR 450).
India is one of the largest and fastest growing AlcoBev markets in the world. It is estimated that over 60 Cr people are between the ages of 18 – 35.
Historically, India has been a market for brown spirits such as rum, whisky and brandy. While gin has seen a rapid increase in the interest of tipplers, Vodka remains the market leader in white spirits. Gin’s volume of sales is one-fourth of that of Vodka in India.
