Third Wave Coffee, one of India’s fastest growing coffee chains in India plans to open 25 new stores in the next sixty days, before the end of FY 24-25. The company opened its 125th store in India at Chennai at Palladium, the luxury retail precinct of Phoenix Market City.

Present across 10 cities, Third Wave Coffee has transformed the country’s coffee culture, creating a unique coffee experience to its patrons.

The prime location adds to the café’s appeal, making it a vibrant spot for social gatherings, work sessions, or quiet moments.

The interiors are inspired by a blend of modern aesthetics and a coastal charm, offering a welcoming ambiance that fosters creativity.

The café in Chennai brings a curated menu of signature single-origin coffees, cold brews, handcrafted sandwiches, wraps, and shareable bites.

Coffee-lovers can also shop for exclusive brand merchandise, and flaunt their love for all things coffee.

Rajat Luthra, CEO, Third Wave Coffee, said, “What began with a dream to elevate the way India experiences coffee, has today evolved into something truly special, fueled by the love and support of our customers.

Our journey with Third Wave Coffee has been a mission to deliver an exceptional coffee experience to more & more customers, wherever they are.

From the onset, we have aimed to design ambiences where each visit to our cafe is as memorable as the coffee we serve.

As we celebrate our 125th café in Chennai, we’re energized by the trust of our customers. Looking ahead, we aim to close FY 2024-25 with 150 cafés, bringing our signature experience to an even larger and more diverse community.”

Staying true to its brand ethos of quality, innovation, and connection, Third Wave Coffee seamlessly blends specialty coffee, cutting-edge brewing techniques, and thoughtfully designed spaces to deliver a modern and distinctive experience for today’s coffee enthusiasts.

Every element of Third Wave Coffee, from its single-origin coffees, refreshing cold brews to its handcrafted menu of savory bites and desserts, is designed to delight.

With a presence across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Chandigarh, Third Wave Coffee is creating community centric spaces designed for creativity and connection.

Editor’s Note

Chennai has been one of the toughest markets for cafe chains operating in India.

The likes of Cafe Coffee Day and Barista, among the earliest coffee chains in India couldn’t scale even 50 stores each in the metropolitan city over the last 20 years, famous for its filter coffee, that sells at best for no more than INR 50 even at a premium South Indian restaurant in the city.

Starbucks recently celebrated its 100th store in Mumbai, while it operates over 480 cafes across India. This is the single largest count for a cafe chain in India.

While standalone coffee shops such as Amethyst, Amelies, Chamiers, to name a few have a constant flow of patrons 365 days a year, international and domestic coffee chains attract a completely different segment of consumers, many of whom are GenX and Gen Z, and have a global exposure to coffee brands and their international offering.

ASPD – Average Sales per Day – is one of the basic measures how QSRs perform across the country.

Chennai, with its unique, sensitive and conservative attitude and mindset for F&B consumption, offers one of the lowest ASPD for any QSR chain across metro cities and this is one of the reasons why brands hesitate to invest in new stores and expand massively in the southern city.

Third Wave Coffee was founded in 2015 by Sushant Goel, Anirudh Sharma and Ayush Bathwal. The chain has raised INR 500 Cr (USD 66 Mn) until now and reported an annual revenue of INR 241 Cr for FY 23-24 and a loss of INR 110 Cr for the same period.
