Announcing the opening of its newest Mc Donalds store at Madurai, the cultural capital city of Tamil Nadu, Westlife Foodworld Ltd has announced a target to operate 580-630 restaurants in India by the year 2027.
Hardcastle Restaurants Private Ltd. (HRPL), a subsidiary of Westlife Foodworld Ltd., currently operates over 420 outlets for Mc Donalds across the Western and Southern regions of India.

Saurabh Kalra, Managing Director, McDonald’s India (W&S) said, “We are excited to bring the McDonald’s experience to Madurai.
This launch represents a significant milestone in our journey as we continue expanding our footprint across South India.
Our strategy focuses on bringing the joy and convenience of McDonald’s to more and more communities.

We remain committed to creating welcoming spaces where friends and families can gather, celebrate special moments, and enjoy the consistent quality and service that have defined McDonald’s globally for decades.”
Mc Donalds operates 38 outlets in the state of Tamil Nadu currently.
Aligned with its Vision 2027, Westlife has set forth plans to allocate around 60% of its new restaurants to South India. Each establishment will feature the state-of-the-art Experience of the Future (EOTF) concept, complete with McCafe by 2027.

Editor’s Note
Tamil Nadu has not been just a business challenge for brands like McD, rather a real pain for growth.
The state’s food consumption habits are quite different than the rest of Southern India and quite polarised when compared to Rest of India.
While branded food brands such as McD, Burger King, etc. has made significant in-roads in the State, the bill values remain low, with store footfalls being 2/3 to 50% compared to some of the other best performing markets of India.

Yet, QSR brands are chasing growth in Tamil Nadu, given that the state has the most number of Engineering colleges and a very young working population with higher disposable incomes.
Will burger and pizza win over South indian snacks such as Idli-Vada and meal alternatives for the traditional biriyani, is a story that would be unveiled by 2030, if not later!
