There are automobiles. And then there a handful which achieve critical stardom for three key reasons – their features, their reliability and their records.

Joining an eponymous list of such automobiles is a stunning EV model from Mercedes Benz.

The EQS SUV 450 has officially set a Guinness World Record™ title for its endurance.

The vehicle remained calm and efficient across two extremes of temperature from a scorching high of +47.5°C in Rajasthan, to a freezing -3.7C at Leh, the greatest temperature change achieved by an electric production car.

This landmark achievement marks the second GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS” title for the Mercedes-Benz EQS range in India.

The first Mercedes-Benz with a ‘Made in India‘ tag to achieve this record was EQS 580 in 2024.

The journey began with a remarkable 949 km drive from Bengaluru to Navi Mumbai, setting the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the longest distance covered by an EV in a single charge.

Now, with this second record achieved in collaboration with Autocar India, it’s evident that Mercedes-Benz BEVs are not only built for distance, but also for endurance.

More than a record, it’s a powerful statement by the world’s most respected automaker as luxury, performance and sustainability move forward as one.

Editor’s Note

Mercedes-Benz sold over half of all luxury cars sold in India, numbering 17.715 units during CY 2024 as well as FY 24-25.

Overall, Indians bought a record 4.3 mn cars – Forty Three lakh cars.

Maruti Suzuki sold 16.75 lakh cars while Huundai sold 5.59 lakh cars in the country during this period, followed by Tata Motors with 5.35 lakh units and M&M with 5.12 lakh units.

Thanks to affordable EMI schemes and a burgeoning aspirational higher income segment in India, luxury brands of cars including Audi, BMW, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz have been appealing to discerning consumers.

Mercedes-Benz recorded annual revenues of USD 156 Bn, a drop of 4.5% over the previous year. The net profit however dropped to USD 11.2 Bn from USD 15.7 Bn in 2023.
