Among the world’s oldest book stores in continuous service, the eponymous Higginbothams, has opened its newest store at Chennai Central Railway Station.

The 100 sq ft store is strategically located such that those arriving from the Western as well as Southern enteances cannot miss the shop.

The store has a selected range of latest bestsellers, toys and stationery.

Set up in 1865, the brand came up with its first store at Mount Road in Madras, followed by a slow expansion over the next century.

Chennai based Amalagamations Group, which owns companies such as Simpsons, TAFE, Amco Batteries, India Pistons among others, bought over the brand in 1945.

Ever since, the brand has explored opening stores across various locations but has been a huge success at travel points such as railway stations and airports.

Editor’s Note

In a day and age when consumers have opted for digital reading, it is only hearty to see select customers continue to shop for printed books, especially at railway stations.

It was such a happiness to note a nice slope at the entrance of the store, perhaps for moving around suitcases and travel bags with wheels even though only 3 adults can stand inside the outlet.

The level of attention to such details is quite rare in today’s times.
