Five Experience Centres. No local manufacturing. No Gigafactory announcement.

Elon Musk’s Tesla has planted its fifth flag in India, opening its latest Experience Center at Knowledge City, Madhapur, in Hyderabad’s HITEC City on June 17, 2026 — simultaneously commencing delivery and after-sales services in Telangana from its service facility at the Bollaram Industrial Area.

Other centres are located at Gurugram, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

The timing is deliberate.

Hyderabad’s HITEC City is home to the largest concentration of technology companies and high-earning professionals outside of Bengaluru — arguably Tesla’s most natural consumer base in India.

The centre showcases two models from the 2026 Model Y lineup.

The Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive is priced at INR 50.89 Lakhs, offers a WLTP range of 500 km, and accelerates from 0–100 kmph in 5.9 seconds.

The Model Y L — a six-seat AWD SUV — is priced from INR 61.99 Lakhs, delivers a WLTP range of 681 km, and sprints from 0–100 kmph in 5.0 seconds, with 2,539 litres of cargo space

Customers placing orders before June 30, 2026 will receive a complimentary Wall Connector — a neat push to convert footfalls into bookings before the quarter closes.

Both models carry top safety ratings from NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP, and C-IASI — a global safety scorecard that few vehicles sold in India can match.

Editor’s Note

India’s electric passenger vehicle market posted a sharp 87.4% growth in FY26, reaching 2,33,246 units.

Yet the numbers tell a divided story — the INR 20–30 Lakh price band now commands 35.7% of EV sales, while premium EVs above INR 50 Lakhs remain a thin, niche slice of the market.

Tesla’s INR 50–62 Lakh price positioning places it squarely in competition not with Tata or Mahindra, but with BMW, Mercedes, and Volvo in the premium SUV segment.

The luxury EV segment in India is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10% through 2036 — a promising long arc, but a slow burn in the near term.

Meanwhile India has just 29,151 public charging stations as of December 2025, against a requirement of 1.32 million by 2030.

The real dare is not to the Indian consumer.

It is to the Indian Government — to keep import duties negotiable and keep the door open, before a rival like BYD or Hyundai claims the premium EV ground permanently.
