Canadian performance apparel leader lululemon is set to make its India debut in the second half of 2026 through a strategic partnership with Tata CLiQ.
The launch will include the brand’s first physical store in India alongside its online presence on Tata CLiQ Luxury and Tata CLiQ Fashion, marking another milestone in lululemon’s international expansion strategy.
Founded in Vancouver in 1998, lululemon has evolved from a yoga apparel specialist into one of the world’s most valuable athletic lifestyle brands.

André Maestrini, Interim Co-CEO, President and Chief Commercial Officer, lululemon said, “Bringing lululemon to India has been a part of our market expansion roadmap for a number of years and represents an exciting milestone in our international growth journey”.
The company reported fiscal 2025 revenue of USD 11.1 billion, while its international business continued to outperform, growing 17% in Q4 and 22% in Q1 FY 2026.
As of May 2026, lululemon operated 816 company-owned stores across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, with India becoming one of its newest strategic markets.

The brand’s entry comes as India’s premium athleisure and wellness economy continues to gain momentum, driven by rising disposable incomes, increased fitness participation and growing demand for premium performance apparel.
lululemon’s core consumer base—urban professionals, yoga practitioners, runners and fitness enthusiasts—aligns closely with India’s expanding affluent demographic.
In India, lululemon will compete in the premium activewear segment alongside global brands including Nike, adidas, Under Armour, ASICS and Alo Yoga, while also facing premium offerings from Puma and emerging digital-first activewear players.

Backed by Tata CLiQ’s omnichannel ecosystem and luxury retail expertise, the partnership is expected to accelerate brand awareness and customer acquisition.
The India launch also reinforces lululemon’s broader investor narrative of diversifying beyond North America, where growth has moderated, by expanding into high-potential international markets.
lululemon Management has consistently highlighted international expansion as a key long-term growth engine, positioning India as one of the world’s most promising consumer markets for premium athletic and lifestyle brands.

Editor’s Note
India’s retail landscape has witnessed the arrival of almost every major global fashion and sportswear brand over the past decade.
Yet, lululemon’s entry feels different.
This is not simply another international label opening stores; it is the arrival of a brand that has redefined premium activewear by building a community-led business around wellness, performance and lifestyle.
Its decision to partner with Tata CLiQ signals confidence in India’s growing premium consumer base and the maturity of the country’s omnichannel retail ecosystem.

The timing is equally significant.
As Indian consumers increasingly invest in fitness, athleisure and wellness, global brands are looking beyond traditional metros to build long-term businesses.
lululemon’s India debut is therefore more than a market expansion—it is a reflection of how India has emerged as a strategic growth destination in the global retail playbook.
For retailers, investors and the broader industry, this launch will be closely watched as an indicator of how premium international brands shape the next phase of India’s fashion and lifestyle market.
