ASICS partners the Freshworks Chennai Marathon and launches ASICS Running Club Chennai; see why building community strengthens brand loyalty in Indian retail.
ASICS has joined the Freshworks Chennai Marathon as Official Sports Goods Partner and launched ASICS Running Club Chennai, signalling that communities, not campaigns, now carry sportswear brands forward.
India’s running apparel and equipment market is projected to touch about USD 5 billion by 2033, growing near 8% annually, fuelled by recreational runners and a packed marathon calendar.
Nike, Adidas, Puma, Skechers and Decathlon all chase the same runner, while ASICS ranks third in premium running and targets leadership by 2029.
The brand already sees roughly a third of race participants wearing ASICS, operates 138 stores and targets about 35% annual growth in India over five years.

Its recent partnership with Tata Steel World 25K Kolkata brought the first East India running club, while the Tata Mumbai Marathon association stretches back over a decade.
Yet premium shoes priced INR 3,999 to INR 29,999 intimidate beginners, who struggle with choosing footwear, building stamina and avoiding injuries without guidance.
ASICS Running Club Chennai answers precisely that, offering regular training, group runs and coaching support, ahead of the 15th Freshworks Chennai Marathon on 3 January 2027.
Chennai’s runners are already organised and passionate, so ASICS enters as a partner to an existing culture rather than an outsider selling shoes.

Communities turn buyers into advocates, lift repeat purchases, and generate honest feedback, all at a lower cost than any advertising campaign can deliver.
With running clubs spreading from Kolkata to Chennai, ASICS looks set to turn every weekend run into its brightest showroom.
Editor’s Note
Community is the one moat competitors cannot copy with discounts. Shoes can be matched on price; belonging cannot.
Running clubs convert strangers into a tribe that trains, shops and recommends together, giving the brand a living laboratory for product feedback, store traffic and fresh talent.

Every retailer, whatever the category, should ask one decisive question: who gathers around us when the city is still asleep?
Brands that answer it well will find loyalty is earned over the long run, and India is only at the starting line.
