It is with deep regret that we annouce the passing away of Shri. Micky Jagtiani, Founder Chairman of the Landmark Group earlier today, on 26 May 2023. He was 70. Jagtiani was ranked 511 on Forbes’ 37th “Annual World’s Billionaires List” released earlier this year, with a net worth of USD 5.2 Bn. The self-made Indian Entrepreneur has created a fledgling retail empire starting with a single store in Bahrain in 1973.
Jagtiani is credited with building one of the largest retail conglomerates in the world, especially focussed in the Middle East, Africa and in India. Landmark Group operates 43 brands in 21 countries with 2,200 stores and employs 48,000 people.
“I have known Micky from the time he moved to Dubai in the early 90’s. We spoke quite often, met a lot in the malls as we were both doing our MBWA – ‘Management By Walking Around‘, Ishwar Chugani, Managing Director of Giordano Middle East told Gulf News.
The Landmark group entered India in 1996 with its first Lifestyle store in Chennai and recently celebrated the opening of its 100th Lifestyle store. The company operates other formats such as Home Centre, Max, EasyBuy, SPAR Hyper, Krispy Kreme and Fun City in India.

Said to be a man of details, Jagtiani would carry a pen and notepad where ever he went. He would undertake surprise visit to malls and stores to observe consumer behaviour, take notes and implement many things which were conducive to the business, according to people who have known and worked with him.
Several global leaders have been paying rich tributes ever since the news of his passing away came to light earlier today. We offer our obeissance to the gentleman who has created a sprawling retail empire, has provided livelihood and employment to thousands worldwide and for creating one of India’s favourite shopping destinations – Lifestyle Department Stores.
