Shri. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India inaugurated the New Integrated Terminal Building at Chennai International Airport on 8 April 2023.
The event was attended by Shri. R N Ravi, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri. M K Stalin, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Communications and IT, Shri. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri. L. Murugan, Union Minister for Fisheries and Animal Husbandry, Cabinet Ministers of the State Assembly, Leaders of BJP among others.
The New Integrated Terminal Building of Chennai International Airport is uniquely designed to showcase the rich culture and heritage of the state. Each and every design integrated into the building is well thought out and a pure marvel mirroring the beauty of the state.
The columns are designed to create the visual effect of a palm tree, ceilings are adorned with motif lights, reflecting the Kolam patterns of South India, and the roof design is derived from the ‘Bharatnatyam’
Spread over 21 lakh sq ft (approximately size of Phoenix Market City and Express Avenue Mall put together), there would be 80 airline checkin counters, 8 self check-in counters, 6 baggage drop counters, 50 emigration and immigration counters each, 33 boarding gates and 20 aerobridges.
Flemingo International, a Joint Venture with Adani Holdings will be the Duty Free operator in the new terminal which is dedicated for international departures amd arrivals. Travel Food Services (TFS) will manage all the food and beverage counters in this terminal. New Lounges are also expected to serve the passengers for pre-travel comfort. The travel retail dedicated areas is approximately 10,000 sft inside the new terminal building.
Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman, Airports Authority of India said, “It’s a momentous occasion for AAI & Chennai City to have this new terminal. This terminal would exclusively serve international traffic. It has got 54 immigration counters, 80 check-in counters, which will help in the growth of Chennai & Tamil Nadu”.
