“Samoh” is the name of the occasion wear concept launched by Trent, the retail arm of the TATA group. The newly opened store is located at the busy shopping area of Hazratganj in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

Noel Tata, Chairman of Trent Ltd. said, “We are thrilled to announce the launch of Trent’s premium occasion wear concept Samoh today. Samoh’s range draws inspiration from traditional roots and blends it seamlessly with modern aesthetics. Samoh will undoubtedly provide a compelling touch of luxury and sophistication to our customers, while they shop for their special moments in life”.

Spread over 1,800 sq ft., the store focuses on elegant, expressive, modern silhouettes and a new approach to wardrobe that emphasizes versatility. Samoh will cater to people who appreciate a luxurious and modern take on cherished designs and motifs from the Indian hinterland.

After the hugely successful value apparel retail format Zudio, Trent, the retail arm of TATA Group has forayed in to occasion wear. Trent’s Westside family store has been around for over 2 decades now and largely focusses on office- and day-today wear.

In a true sense, occasion wear is not just restricted to Indian ethnic wear a category spearheaded by Manyavar, Avanthara by Reliance, designer wear labels from Aditya Birla Fashion, among others. Women’s fashion has evolved in the past 20 years, especially work wear. From traditional sarees to salwars, the market has moved towards Indo-Western wear that merges comfort with global fashion.

Homegrown Brands such as W, Global Desi, Trent’s own Westside, private labels from department store chains such as Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle, Reliance Trends and Centro have been leading this change for over a decade. Standalone Multibrand Outlets (MBOs) and neighborhood fashion retail stores, mom-and-pop led boutiques have also been growing this category for several years now.

It must be noted that Zudio, the value fashion format of Trent has expanded faster in the last 5 years and overtaken the number of Westside stores which have opened in the last 20 years.
