The Indian branded coffee shop market grew 12% during FY 2025, according to the World Coffee Portal. It has been forecast that the number of cafes in India will grow to 10,000 outlets by 2030, representing a 13% CAGR.

Zhanna Alanova, Managing Director of Coffeeshop Company said that the Vienna-headquartered company is planning to open 100 cafes in India by 2029.

“Our biggest market in terms of the number of stores is Russia but I am sure that it will be overtaken by India. India.
If you take a look at the consumption of the coffees in India, it’s still very low per capita. It is growing dynamically,“ said Alcanov.

Coffeeshop Company is targeting growth in major metros including Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.
The coffee chain has a presence in 22 countries worldwide and operates over 250 shops employing 3,500 staff members, according to its official sources.

High prices (of the crop), limited availability due to supply chain challenges and historically being touted as a beverage for the rich are some of the reasons why freshly grounded and brewed coffee is expensive in India.
Once upon a time, Cafe Coffee Day, India’s largest coffee chain during the 2010s, operated over 1,500 touch points in the country. Ironically. CCD’s first international operations were in Vienna, Austria at that time.

While Indians crave for a good cup of western-styled Cappuccino, its pricing (> INR 150) remains one of the biggest challenges to sustain the cafe business, not allowing operators to expand like pizza and burger chains.
At last count, India had over 4,000 cafes, including the ones operated by the international and domestic chains such as Starbucks, Costa, Barista, Third Wave Coffee, etc., as well as several 100s of entrepreneur-driven single cafes.
