With state Governments slowly allowing partial “Unlock” after the much dreaded Second wave of the Corona Pandemic which seems to be subsiding after 60+ days, there seems to be a silver lining to the E-Commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart among others. Most of these portals could’t deliver products as the States had only allowed delivery of “Essentials” which caused huge confusion among retailers, consumers, e-commerce platforms as well as regulatory authorities.

“For a home maker, basic grocery could be considered “Essential” where as for a student, a laptop charger could be considered “Essential”, quips the top executive of a Consumer Durables chain who’s mobile phone has been getting calls and messages continuously for the past 3 weeks, especially for Electronics and Accessories.

A District Magistrate, apparently has the powers to revoke “delivery of non-essentials” should there be a side in positive cases in anytime future but the authorities do not want to tread this path as it could put enormous pressure on local affairs such as law & order management.

Consumers, on their part are really unable to distinguish what really are “essentials”. The Mixer Grinder at our home conked off due to regular and high usage since last few months due to WFH. Without this equipment, most work at home gets stunted”, says a worried Nisha, a single mother of two from south Bangalore.
