Baskin Robbins was founded in the year 1945 and operates over 8,000 outlets in 33+ countries worldwide. India is now the 4th largest market for the American Ice-Cream chain with the opening of its 1,000th outlet in the country.
Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins created “Baskin Robbins” at Glendale, California and came up with a unique idea to serve 31 flavours at their parlour, so when a customer walks in every day, they will find a new flavour.

Burt learned the art of making ice-cream when he served WW2 and launched his outlet at California while Irv managed his father’s ice cream store in the same city.
In 1948, the brothers in-law merged their business to form Baskin Robbins. The brand is now housed under Atlanta, USA headquartered Inspire Brands which owns other notable names such as Arby’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dunkin’, Jimmy John’s and SONIC.

Michael Haley, President and Managing Director, International, Inspire Brands said, “We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous occasion of opening our 1000th location in India.
We would like to thank Graviss Foods for being such a strong franchisee in the region for over 30 years, and congratulate them, as well as the Inspire international team, for achieving this accomplishment.

Baskin-Robbins’ success here is a reflection of our commitment to delivering exceptional and innovative experiences tailored to the Indian palate.
We are proud to be a leader in the QSR space and excited to further expand our footprint in this vibrant market.”
The company entered India in 1993 with Graviss Foods. Since then, the brand has endeared several generations of Indians who have a discerning love for all things ice-cream.

Gaurav Ghai, Chairman, Graviss Group said, “It’s an exciting day for us at Graviss Foods, the master franchisee for Baskin-Robbins in India and in the SAARC region, along with Inspire Brands, as we come together to celebrate the launch of Baskin-Robbins’ 1,000th location in the region.
This milestone reflects our shared values, deep commitment and exceptional execution in this market.”

The 1,000th outlet has come up at Mumbai, where its first outlet came up when it was launched in India.
Vikram Seth, Managing Director, Graviss Foods said, “As India continues its upward march towards becoming one of the world’s leading economies, Baskin-Robbins is committed to being a part of this journey, contributing to the economy, creating jobs, and delivering happiness to consumers through continuing innovation in our products and services.”

Baskin-Robbins offers its popular signature flavours, like Mississippi Mud, Honey Nut Crunch and Bavarian Chocolate, and has also introduced menu items that draw from local sweet delicacies, like Gulab Jamun, Caramel Milkcake, and Rabdi Jalebi.
The brand’s ability to adapt to local market conditions and consumer preferences has been instrumental in its success, making it not just an international brand operating in India and the SAARC region, but an integral part of the consumer experience.

While the branded ice-cream market size is estimated at INR 22,000 Cr (USD2.8 Bn) growing at 15% annually, Baskin Robbins has observed double than the market growth rate.
