We have seen several heists – in real life and in cinema. What if a full truck of KitKat chocolates were looted by thieves? Could this even be real? Based on a recent statement by Nestlé SA, this seems to be real.
12 tonnes of KITKAT chocolates ~ 413,000 bars were steered away by thieves, when the truck was moving from its factory in Central Italy to Poland.
“We always encouraged people to have a break with KITKAT, but it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate,” the company said in an official statement.

As on Sunday 2200 hrs IST, the truct and the consignment remain untraceable.
Nestle revealed that the stolen chocolate bars are not entirely untraceable.
Each batch carries a unique code, and anyone attempting to scan these codes would be prompted with instructions to contact the company.

Editor’s Note
It is not uncommon that such heists happen in Central and Western Europe. But something of such a scale is unprecedented.
The fact that a conglomerate such as Nestlé SA, which recorded revenues of USD 103 Bn for FY 2025 to say that the vehicle remains untracked raises questions of how logistics management prevails globally.
While even small passenger vehicles come with a built-in GPS these days which is difficult to break in to, it is surprising that trucks carrying thousands of Euros worth products don’t have one in a developed European country.

The case is still under investigation, according to authorities.
