NCR’s second airport at Noida ready for take off

GMR Airports releases Q3 results

Inaugurated in Nov. 22, Donyi Polo Airport at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh is the state’s first greenfield airport and was designed to handle all-weather operations.

The airport’s name translates to “Sun” (Donyi) and “Moon” (Polo), reflecting the traditional indigenous reverence for these celestial bodies in the region.

Donyi Polo Airport in Arunachal Pradesh has been awarded the “Best Airport under RCS UDAN,” for 2025 recognising its role in strengthening regional connectivity in the state.

Retail facilities at this airport include “Airport as Venue for Skilled Artisans of the Region” AVSAR – platform which allows local self-help groups and women’s collectives to showcase and sell traditional Arunachali handicrafts and products.

Several small shops and souvenir stands are available, primarily offering essential goods, snacks, and locally made gifts.

UDAN Yatri Café is a specialized cafe aimed at providing a dignified and comfortable dining experience for all passengers.

The airport also includes a dedicated children’s play area, “Mother and Child” rooms, and a unique library exchange feature where passengers can pick up or drop off books while waiting for their flight.

IndiGo and Alliance Air operate direct flights from Itanagar to major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai as well as regional routes such as Guwahati.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated the operating team of Airports Authority of India at Itanagar and all other stakeholders involved in achieving this milestone.

Editor’s Note

The new terminal at Itanagar’s Doni Polo Airport can handle up to 800 passengers during peak hours, supporting an annual capacity of 15 lakh (1.5 million) passengers.

The recognition highlights Arunachal Pradesh’s growing aviation infrastructure and its commitment to sustainable development.

The airport has also received a provisional 4-Star rating under GRIHA for its focus on sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure.

With thousands of tourist thronging to the North Eastern regions of India, the retail opportunities within the airport and in the city are immense, creating a thriving local economy.
