Babyshop, the hugely sucessful baby products concept operated by the Landmark Group opened 4 new stores in 3 countries over 5 days. The company’s CEO Ruban Shanmugarajah shared in a Linkedin post.

- Al forsan mall, in the heart of Khallifa city in Abu Dhabi, UAE
- Aman central mall in Kedah, Malaysia
- Two new stores in Indonesia, one in Aeon Mall BSD city & another in Supermal Karawaci

Since opening its first store in Bahrain in 1973, the group has expanded to 21 countries in the Middle East, North Africa, India and a growing presence in South East Asia with 2,200 stores with 43 brands across various formats . The company entered India in 1996 with the Lifestyle department store format followed by Fun City, an entertainment centre for kids and Home Centre, focussed on home improvement. The company is the master franchisee for SPAR Hypermarkets in India.

The concept operates 240 stores in 13 countries currently. Mothercare, a globally respected rival has been operating similar concept in India for over 15 years now. Home grown Firstcry is the largest player in India and opened its largest store recently.
Babyshop is expected to begin its India innings in the near future, with a burgeoning young parents who have the disposable income to spend on their little ones as well as with a crucial real estate play, given the number of mid-premium malls that are already in India.
